Victoria Nakirya BA

Counselor

Victoria Nakirya is RMF’s Counselor currently in the ART Department of the Panyadoli Health Centre III in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement. After obtaining her BA in Guidance and Counseling from Kyambogo University, Victoria took on her job at the Gaddafi Military Hospital in Central Uganda where she worked in the ART Clinic and Causality Department helping men in uniform who had arms or legs amputated as a result of their service to accept the reality of living with the disability.

After working for 3 years, Victoria went for further training with The Aids Support Organization (TASO) where she acquired a Postgraduate Certificate specializing in HIV/AIDS and other Counseling Issues. It was after this training that Victoria secured employment with Uganda Health Marketing Group as an HIV Counselor where she worked until June 2014 when she joined the RMF team. Victoria loves interacting with people irrespective of their background, saying: “For my wish is good living for us all.” She is passionate about learning different languages.

Besides English, she is fluent in Ateso, Lusoga, Rutoro, Lugwere, and Luganda and is now taking Acholi language lessons, one of the common languages used in the camp and the surrounding community. This makes her an exceptional person as very few people in Uganda can master both Bantu and Nilotic languages. Victoria has additional training in computer programs, Microsoft Office, MS Work, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
