| Real Medicine Foundation, SPINAL CORD INJURY PATIENTS HOME TUITION PROJECT PAKISTAN
 | Over 600 spinal cord injury (SCI) patients are estimated to have survived the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan .These SCI patients are mainly women and children who developed thoracic and lumbosacral spinal cord injuries with cauda-equina and adjacent vertebral and soft tissue damage. Some of them had spinal stabilization and other surgeries done. Very few quadriplegics with cervical (neck) SCI have survived, as they could not get medical support in tim.
Goal

| Policlinico Peruano Americano - DRI Equipment Procurement
 | We are very thankful for the $16,000 gift from Direct Relief International, which was used to purchase medical equipment. With this money, we purchased an ultrasound unit, suction unit, pulse oximeter, autoclave, hospital bed, oxygen tanks, nebulizers, and cabinetry. We also improved the security measures at the clinic to protect DRI's investment in our clinic. We are gracious for DRI's continued support of the Policlinico Peruano Americano. Approximately 90 patients per day will benefit from the new equipment and service expansion. Location: San Clemente, Pisco, Ica, Peru

 | On July 4, 2008, Friends in Global Health distributed blankets and clothes to AIDS orphans from 3 communities in Alto Molocue district under the auspices of a partnering NGO. The AIDS crisis in Mozambique is leaving behing a fragile generation of AIDS orphans. Some no longer have anyone to care for them as entire families have been wiped out. Many children are malnourished, poorly clothed and have no source of income. Without donations and external support, communities would not be able to bear the burden of providing for these abandoned children. The general situation of children here in Zambezia province points to the urgent need to ramp up HIV prevention and treatment programs, particularly programs for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and to bring these services to remote rural communities.
