Real Medicine Foundation and Jeevan Jyoti Health Service Society
Seeking Pediatrician for Short-term Volunteer or long-term Child Health and Nutrition Position, Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh

Jeevan Jyoti Hospital (JJH) runs a 100-bed mission hospital in the rural Meghnagar block of Jhabua district in Southwest, Madhya Pradesh. Established in 1989, JJH has earned the trust of local communities and is well regarded as one of the leading institutions in the state for public private partnerships for health. The hospital has a fully functioning lab, operation theaters, x-ray and sonography capabilities, and a blood bank and has a staff of full time nurses and a surgeon.
Real Medicine Foundation (RMF) has been working in partnership with JJH since 2006, running a HIV/AIDS Care and Support program and a large-scale childhood malnutrition program. Together with the Madhya Pradesh Ministry of Health, RMF and JJH run a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Integrated Counseling and Testing Center for HIV, a PPP link-Antiretroviral Treatment Center for HIV positive patients, a DOTS center for tuberculosis treatment, and now a PPP Nutrition Rehabilitation Center for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. In addition to this facility based care RMF manages a childhood malnutrition prevention and referral program across 500 districts in Madhya Pradesh, focusing on connecting communities to the resources already available to treat and prevent malnutrition at the local level.
Qualifications:
The Pediatrician would have the opportunity to lead the dedicated team of nurses, care takers, and nutrition counselors at the Nutrition Rehabilitation Center (NRC), a special ward for children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). In accordance with the WHO Protocol for the In-Patient Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition, RMF’s Nutrition Rehabilitation Center offers treatment for 20 cases of complicated SAM at a time. With treatment lasting between 14-21 days on average, RMF uses this time to counsel the parents to ensure that children do no relapse once they are sent home. While this is many days a challenging task, the pediatrician will be able to directly see his/her impact on the lives of malnourished children and their families.
Qualifications:

- MD, specialized in Pediatrics
- Experience working in developing country settings
- Public Health experience a plus
- Proficiency in Hindi language an advantage but not necessary
Time Commitment
RMF is looking to fill this position on a permanent basis (initial 1 year contract), but is also willing to accept short-term volunteers while we are searching for the perfect person to settle in Jhabua over the long-term. Especially during the months of September, October and November, when complicated SAM cases are the highest due to malaria and other vector-borne and water-borne illnesses, extra help is urgently required.
Compensation
Stipend/Salary negotiable with JJH and RMF.
Housing and transportation in Jhabua will be provided by RMF/JJH.
